THE GRINDCENTER HITTING PROCESS
Phase 1: HANDS - We start off by making sure each hitters' hands are traveling on the path that will give them the best chance at achieving CONSISTENT and POWERFUL contact.
Phase 2: LOAD/STRIDE - During this phase we ensure that our hitters have the proper weight distribution in their batting stance. We also make sure they get their LOAD/STRIDE complete in enough time to READ THE BALL coming out of the pitchers hand. This helps them recognize pitches better and improves BALL STRIKING.
Phase 3: HIP TURN - POWER POWER POWER. This phase is all about power, we show our hitters how to turn the hips properly. WE DO NOT "SQUISH THE BUG". We use our hips the same way ALL PROFESSIONAL HITTERS DO in order to truly get the most out of the strongest parts of the body, the LEGS!
Phase 4: TIMING - We show our hitters where they should be making contact with each pitch relative to their front foot and work on hitting all pitches (INSIDE/MIDDLE/OUTSIDE) with solid contact. This phase improves PITCH RECOGNITION and PLATE DISCIPLINE.
Phase 5: APPROACH - A huge part of being a consistent hitter is HAVING A PLAN at the plate. We talk to our hitters about the type of plan they should have for certain situations and against different types of pitchers.
Phase 6: EXECUTION - Being able to execute in crucial situations is what separates GREAT hitters from good hitters. We teach hitters what their goal should be in execution situations and work on executing when these situations arise. GREAT HITTERS KNOW HOW TO EXECUTE!

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Joe Grinstead has a passion for teaching the game of baseball and helping young people be successful. He was a standout baseball player at Warren East High School and went on to be a 2 time All-American at Union College as well as 2009 Union College Male Athlete of the Year. He was a Student Assistant Coach at Union College in 2011. He coached at Franklin-Simpson High School from 2012-2016 (Baseball, Cross Country, Golf) and worked at Franklin-Simpson Middle School as the In-School-Isolation teacher. At FSMS Joe was also a PASS coach, PASS is a behavior intervention program that helps students with behavior problems be successful in the classroom environment.
